Sure, the Earth is mostly covered by water. But as we all know, agriculturally usable water (about 1% of the total water on Earth) ebbs and flows in terms of availability. Mother Nature is fickle that way.
For at least 8,000 years, ever since farmers in Mesopotamia and Egypt began diverting water from the Nile to nourish their crops, irrigation has been the human-led regulator of plant water consumption. Today, thank goodness, we have plenty of technology to help us do it in an efficient, data-informed way.
Irrigation technology has been studied, refined, and advanced for centuries — millennia, even — to lead to where we are now. And we’re not finished yet. There are still plenty of challenges to overcome, and the shifting climate only complicates things further. But the agriculture industry has a long history of merging natural resources and technology to grow crops even in harsh conditions.
Water is the lifeblood of our plants. Farmers, retailers, and suppliers are the conduits for responsible usage. And intelligent, strategically focused irrigation technology helps us all be good stewards of the land and our finite resources while maintaining profitable operations.
In this report, we dive into the ways that technology is advancing the agriculture industry, specifically in the irrigation realm.
You’ll learn about:
Taking a holistic approach to water management in greenhouses
Optimizing efficiency through remote sensing
Pragmatic uses for automated irrigation systems
The retailer’s role in managing water usage responsibly
How biostimulants can improve water retention
